Davis Doubles Up by Claiming Victory at 281

STEPHENVILLE, Texas (May 27, 2019) – Cory Davis has been bad fast so far on the 2019 IMCA Red River Modified Tour, and his margin of victory at the 281 Speedway shows how much of a threat the Eunice, New Mexico racer is.

Brent Tidwell from Harleton and Fred Wojtek from Blackwell made up the front row for the IMCA Modifieds. It took quite a few tries for the racers to get a single lap complete in the feature. Wojtek was fast off the front row each time, getting the holeshot on a majority of the restarts. However, the one time that a lap was completed, Wojtek slipped up on the start, making way for the 4th-starting Davis.

A caution slowed the field after this lap was completed, which gave the lead to Davis on the restart. The field worked through a few more cautions scattered throughout the event but Davis completely checked out from the field behind him. Wojtek, Chris Morris, and Tyler Stevens were in close quarters for a majority of the race, and finished in that order.

With this victory, Davis becomes the first Modified racer to get to 2 total feature wins on the Red River Modified Tour, also becoming the first to win back-to-back feature events.

Casey Brunson and Jake Upchurch led the IMCA Southern SportMod field to the green flag. Upchurch was able to get out to the lead while Brunson ran behind him. A handful of laps into the feature, a yellow flag waved, allowing Trevor Egbert to get around Brunson on the restart. Egbert set his sights on Upchurch and used the middle lane to pass Upchurch’s machine. From there, Egbert pulled away and won in convincing fashion.

The IMCA Stock Cars provided some great racing action. Gary Williams, winner at Kennedale 2 nights before, jumped out to an early lead. Behind him, the likes of A.J. Dancer, Dennis Bissonnette, Shelby Williams, Jason Batt, Cary White, Jeffrey Abbey, and Brandon Hood all battled two and three wide for position. Gary Williams came out on top with White, Shelby Williams, Bissonnette, and Dancer completing the top 5.
